The South Pierhead Light is a lighthouse that sits right at the entrance to the Black River on Lake Michigan. The station was lit in 1872, and is still operational today. The design is actually a much smaller model of the Muskegon South Pierhead Light. It replaced an 1872 wooden tower. The catwalk is the bridge that connects the tower to the shore.
