As the gateway to the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, Skykomish is known for its abundance of activities during all seasons. There are numerous close-by hiking trails, abandoned logging roads make great mountain biking, 4-wheeling and snowmobiling roads. Located in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, 49 miles east of Everett, Washington, on the South Fork of the Skykomish River, Skykomish was founded as a railroad town. Today, it is mainly a stopping point for recreational access to the surrounding mountains, including skiing at nearby Stevens Pass.
