The University’s Main Building has a “Golden Dome” with 1,250 thin strips made out of 8 oz. of 23-karat gold. This building is home various administrative offices, including the Office of the President. View the other live cam of Notre Dame from the Hesburgh Library. The 17-foot-tall statue of the Virgin Mary has been regilded 12 times and just underwent one in May of 2024. Standing 197 feet above the ground at its highest point, the Golden Dome has been regilded on 11 previous occasions: 1886, 1893, 1904, 1912, 1924, 1933, 1948, 1961, 1971, 1988 and 2005.
