Live River Itchen
This live streaming view is for Southampton ship spotting. The river has international importance and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). This in large part is due to its high quality habitats which support a range of protected species including the water vole, otter and white-clawed crayfish. The river is a beautiful chalk stream which flows for approximately 28 miles from mid-Hampshire to Southampton. It provides good water quality, extensive beds of submerged plants that act as a refuge for the species. The coarse sediments that are vital for spawning and juvenile development.
