History

Munich is a city in Germany with a long and interesting history. It was founded in the 12th century when a group of monks built a bridge over the River Isar. The name “Munich” comes from the German word for “monk.” Over the years, it grew from a small settlement into a larger town. In 1255, Munich became the capital of Bavaria, a region in southern Germany. This made it an important place for trade and culture, as many people moved there for opportunities.

In the 19th century, Munich became known for its beautiful buildings and art. Many famous artists and musicians lived and worked in the city. The famous Oktoberfest celebration started here in 1810, celebrating a royal wedding. This festival has grown to become one of the largest beer festivals in the world, attracting millions of visitors each year. Munich also built many beautiful parks and theaters during this time, making it a cultural hub in Germany.

Sadly, Munich faced hard times during World War II. Much of the city was damaged by bombings, and many lives were lost. After the war, the city worked hard to rebuild and recover. By the 1970s, Munich had become a modern city with great technology and business. Today, it is known for its strong economy, vibrant culture, and rich history. Visitors come to see its historic sites, enjoy its festivals, and experience its welcoming atmosphere.
