Lake Cherokee, Texas, is a scenic reservoir situated twelve miles southeast of Longview. The lake is located approximately 130 miles east of Dallas, Texas, and about 60 miles west of Shreveport, Louisiana.
Constructed in 1948, Lake Cherokee is owned and operated by the Cherokee Water Company. The lake’s primary purposes are to supply water for municipal, industrial, and recreational uses. The reservoir has a capacity of 68,700 acre-feet and serves as a crucial water source for the city of Longview and the Southwestern Power Company, which uses it for condenser cooling at the Knox Lee Power Plant.
