The Comal River is the shortest navigable river in Texas. Known as the “longest shortest river in the world”, it runs entirely within the city limits of New Braunfels in southeast Comal County. TexasTubes provides this live camera where you can see people going down the river.

The Comal River is always open for recreation and is only closed during times of high water or for public safety. River Access Parks are open daily from 6am to midnight. Lifeguards are on duty at the City Tube Chute during weekends in May and daily from June to mid-August. Lifeguards are not present after Labor Day. 

The Comal River in New Braunfels flows with enchanting beauty, inviting visitors to admire its gentle curves and clear waters. Generally, the river stretches about 2.5 miles in length, winding through lush landscapes and sparkling pools. The current starts quickly near its spring-fed source, moving steadily toward the confluence with the Guadalupe River. Its tranquil atmosphere and scenic views make the Comal a popular spot for floating, fishing, and picnicking.

The width of the Comal River varies throughout its journey, creating different experiences along the way. Near the headwaters, the river is about 20 to 60 feet wide, providing a perfect stretch for kayakers and tubers to enjoy. As it flows downstream, it gradually widens, giving swimmers more room to splash about.

In many places, the depth of the Comal River ranges from just a few inches to around 10 feet, depending on the area and rainfall levels. The shallow spots are ideal for children and beginners, while deeper sections challenge those seeking a little more excitement. Clear waters allow people to see the riverbed, filled with smooth stones and aquatic plants.
